Today’s spotlight on From Pages to Portals. Welcome Betha Dubious from Choice of the Traveler.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
That’s a hard one. I have so many great memories with Angie. It would be a toss-up between the time we went camping with Grandpappy or when Angie surprised me for my birthday. Both were amazing. When we went camping, we chased fireflies until they vanished into the dark. Not to mention, Grandpappy let us stay up as late as we wanted around the campfire. My mom had been a little strict with bedtimes for that’s probably the best one.
What's your favorite drink?
I might have small coffee addiction. It has less to do with the caffeine and more to do with how it smells. For one birthday, I got a candle that smelled like coffee - it was great. Don’t get me wrong, I will drink several cups a day and a great vanilla latte is such a comfort.
What is your biggest regret?
That I didn’t get to give my mom one more big hug before I lost her.
If you could bring one person back to life, who would it be and why?
If I could bring my mom back, but before she had Alzheimer’s - I would. It would be nice to ask her some questions about the secrets she had kept. Not to mention, about being a Traveler and who my father is. I wish she had told me about being a Traveler and I didn’t have to find out on my own. I didn’t press about my father when I was growing up since I figured we had plenty of time. I wish I did.
What do you most fear losing?
I don’t know if I can answer this one right now. Yeah, its too personal.
Who always makes you smile?
Angie can always get a smile out of me. She’s my best friend but we are practically sisters. She knows what I am thinking before I can even say anything. Her boyfriend Joey, would be the other person. All he needs to do is shift into his dog form and try to get me to play ball.
What is the biggest turn on for you?
Someone confident. They know what they are doing and move with purpose. *leans in to whisper* I also really like blue eyes, just saying.
What does a perfect world look like to you?
That’s a hard one, I thought these were going to be easier questions. One where there isn’t such a divide between humans and others. Money was tight when I was growing up and I’d love if it single mom’s didn’t struggle as much.
What smell or scent makes you feel safe?
I miss my mom’s flora scent. She planted lilacs outside of the house we had, and smelling them always comforts me. I can picture her face from the last time she cut some of the flowers to put them on the table.
What color looks best on you?
You need to ask Angie about that one. I know she once told me purple makes my eyes pop, bu then she gave me a blue dress to wear once. *shrug*
What's the first thing you tend to notice about a person?
Are they a nice person. Do they treat others well. That sort of thing. Don’t get me wrong, I see the muscles or the great smile, but personality is key.
What keeps you up at night?
That I am going to make the wrong decision and it hurts one of my friends. I know that I react before thinking on occasion.
So you feel a need to fix problems that don't directly involve you?
Yes, if I can help fix a problem I tend to jump in feet first. This has gotten me in some interesting situations. I don’t regret any of them, but I do wish I had listened to some advice I have gotten first.
Do you have pets?
I never had pets growing up and now, it just doesn’t make sense. I once was called ‘mouse’ from someone but that might be a spoiler.
Anything you'd like to say to your author?
Dude, please don’t make my father a bad guy. I’d like to reconnect with whoever he is. *hint hint* Can we please meet him sometime soon?
