Character Interview: Lillie Dean
Welcome Lillie Dean From A Drizzle of Magic. Let's get to know you.
Character Interview: Lillie Dean From A Drizzle of Magic by S. Usher Evans.
After the Second Kingside War, magical folks like baker Lillie Dean are once again able to live freely and use magic openly. Lillie is taking this new freedom to heart, and has just moved to the seaside town of Silverkeep to start a brand new bakery and begin her life again.
But all is not sweet in the idyllic village, especially when Lillie gets a threatening note saying if she doesn't get out of town, everyone will find out about her villainous past. When other magical creatures start receiving similar threats, Lillie puts on her sleuthing hat to find out who's causing all the consternation - and why they've got a vendetta against magical creatures.
A Drizzle of Magic is the first book in the Pobyd Perfections Bakery Cozy Mystery Fantasy series.
Note: While A Drizzle of Magic is set in the same world as the cozy fantasy mystery series The Weary Dragon Inn, it isn't necessary to have read that series first.
Let's get to know Lellie - welcome to this interview.
Can you start by telling me a little bit about yourself?
I’m a pobyd, that’s a type of magical creature with special abilities in the kitchen. I typically use it to bring the best out of sugar, butter, and flour, to make the most amazing confections you’ve ever tasted. Now that magical creatures are once again allowed to live openly, I recently moved to the town of Silverkeep to open a brand new magical bakery.
What bad habits do you struggle to overcome?
I wouldn’t call it a bad habit per se, but I did have some…questionable decisions when I was hiding from the queen. I feel just so awful about what I almost did that I desperately want to be a helpful force in my new town.
What does a perfect world look like to you?
One where everyone can live as they are without fear, and one with lots and lots of real flour, butter, and sugar.
Do you know how to fix things?
I’m not quite as handy as my friend Earl, who was so kind as to build all my furniture when I moved to Silverkeep. But if you’re talking about fixing problems, I do think I have an eye for setting things right and a gut feeling about the truth.
What makes you wake up in the morning?
Well, typically I’m up very early to bake, but I usually enjoy a cup of tea to get me going.
I love some tea as well. A good cup in the morning gets me going and ready for the day. I’m going to leave this on that high note. Make sure you check out A drizzle of Magic!
