Character Interview: Lior From The Light Must Hold by
Sworn to come to their kingdom’s aid in times of need, Lior and his convent brothers must make the hazardous pilgrimage to the capital, Bangol. The Light Must Hold — a classic dark fantasy adventure with the fanciful prose of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian and the sisyphean struggles of Kentaro Miura’s Berserk.
Let's get to know Lior - welcome to this interview. I have a few questions so readers can get to know you better.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
I don’t recall much from before I came to the chapel. I was quite young. But I do recall vividly the first time I arrived and basked in the crystal’s light. Never had I felt such warmth or seen such vivid light — hues that would have never seemed possible came before my eyes. Even when I slept, the figures that came to me contorted like light itself. I believe at that time that I had been visited by the divine. I’ve never had such a dream since.
What bad habits do you struggle to overcome?
Somehow, I always find myself weeping when it’s time for the hunts or to slaughter. I know I shouldn’t think it cruel. Starvation would be a crueler fate for my brothers and I. Perhaps it’s because the fear of death consumes my own mind. I don’t wish to inflict such fear on another.
What color looks best on you?
Perhaps grave, but I’ve always enjoyed the shade of crimson of our robes. Vurud would be quick to say it’s to mask the stains of blood. I only think of the ruby petals used to dye them. When in bloom, those flowers are so tranquil. It’s a shame the fields must be picked clean.
